The Group Dynamic

Whether you live in a large city or a small town, there are always groups or organizations nearby for you to join and events in which to participate. Your challenge for the day is to find them. And use them in finding romance, of course!

Try to research the kinds of places you want to go and the kinds of things you’d like to do as you attempt to meet people. Go to the newspaper and look for event listings, get on email lists and sign up for groups online. They don't have to be specific online or offline opportunities for finding new relationships or romance. The site Meetup.com can help you get started if you're stuck for ideas and want to discover people with similar interests, such as knitting, soccer or wine-tasting.

As you look for groups to join, take baby steps out of your comfort zone. Look around, make eye contact with people and smile more or strike up a conversation with someone in the elevator at work. If you’re a naturally shy person, this may be a tough task. But remember: Every relationship that has ever existed has resulted from some sort of communication and a first impression. What are you waiting for?!?
