Fruit Juices That Keep You Healthy

Fruit Juices That Keep You Healthy

You already know that you can’t compare apples to oranges, right? Well, the same goes for whole fruit and fruit juices, too. At least, that’s the verdict according to a recent study listing the 10 healthiest fruit juices.

While all of the spots were filled with berry juices—known to be antioxidant powerhouses—pomegranate juice came out on top. Pomegranate has been shown to lower your risk of certain cancers, such as prostate cancer, and is healthy for your heart. Concord grape, blueberry, black cherry and cranberry juices were also on the list.

But while all of the top ten juices are good for you, health gurus say to think before you drink. Excess calories and sugar—even the naturally-derived kind—are factors that should cause people to consume fruit juices in moderation. Also, some fruit juice may interfere with some medications you are taking. For example, grapefruit juice can interact with certain medications and cause undesirable reactions.

As always, go for the real thing if you can because it will have more fiber and fewer calories. It takes 10 oranges to make just one glass of orange juice—so do the math!

If you are not too keen on fruit, then go for the juice, but try mixing it with club soda to dilute the calorie content. We want to know: What’s your favorite—fruit juice or the real thing? [CBS News]
