If losing weight and getting healthier was as simple as saying, “Ala-kazam!” or drinking a magic potion, then we would all look like Angelina Jolie and have Michael Phelps' swimming talent. But alas, the game of life requires more work than a special elixir.
Alex Hughes, M.D., however, claims that his health potion, Function Drinks, may just be the ticket in making healthy living one gulp away. The brews claim to help fight several health issues, including stress, fatigue and even a hangover.
Actually, a hangover can be blamed for this drink's existence. Hughes said he came up with the idea to create a drink to cure hangovers in 2004 during a booze-filled night with friends. After messing around with several combinations, Hughes patened Urban Detox, the first of several health-boosting drinks. Eventually it turned into Function Drinks.
There is no scientific evidence that the drinks work, but Hughes is still confident that the ingredients can improve your health.
We want to know: What’s your take on health elixirs in a bottle? Do you have a favorite health potion or do you think they are just another hoax? What's your go-to hangover cure? [New York Magazine]
If his claim is due to the
idea that clean, mineral filled water is good for you--
he has a point. Mineral water to cure a hangover and fatigue
sounds like wishful thinking.
The only silver bullet for a
hangover is moderation.
