Recess for Adults

Recess for Adults

If gym class was anything but a breeze for you, then you may want to consider giving those old p.e. and recess games a second chance. Adults around the country have learned the fitness benefits of a good old-fashioned game of kickball, and even duck, duck goose.

Take, for example, Old School P.E., a two-hour exercise class in Newport, NH, built for adults who would like to get in shape and participate in some big kid fun. A typical session consists of a warm up of about four situps, three push-ups and two jumping jacks. After breaking a sweat, participants play about three games, like floor hockey, spastic ball (a mix of soccer and basketball) and ultimate Frisbee. They then move outside for a final men versus women match.

The rules aren't too strict, but one that sticks in Newport is that spouses and significant others are required to play on opposite teams. Hey, there’s nothing like a little rivalry to spice up your love life, right?

Big boys and girls who have signed up for the class say they are pleased with the opportunity to focus on fitness while hanging out with friends and stealing some time away from kids.

We want to know: How have you learned to lighten up fitness? What was your favorite recess game that you wish you could play as an adult? [MSNBC]

Dodgeball is the most fun, far and away. It lets you release the frustrations of the day, it's a great workout, and people have a lot of fun competing and then going out afterward.
