Startle Your Bagger
Dontcha just love the smell of a fresh, plastic grocery bag? No? Well, maybe that’s because they’re made of PETROLEUM.
Ew, gross. And double-ew the fact that these bags just sit in landfills for hundreds of years.
Paper, then? In the decomposition category, it’s the clear winner, but it also takes a six-inch diameter tree to make about 200 paper bags.
The next time the bagger at the grocery store asks, “Paper or plastic?” throw them for a loop. Look ‘em straight in the eye, answer “Neither” in a firm voice and whip out your reusable canvas totes. (Not to be confused with Totes rubber overshoes.) You’ll feel good about doing your part to help the environment and as an added bonus, they won’t rip open on the way home.

I love these everyday change tips. They are so fun and so well written.
I've taken to carrying my tote bags with me. I have one in my bag and one at home. I'm going to put one in my car, so I am always prepared.
And, you're so right. They're much easier to carry as well.
