You’ve finally decided to find a place off the beaten path; a little place to call your own on the weekends or when you just need to get away. Buying a home is is a big investment—buying a second home even more so.

The New York Times shares some good tips for those thinking about that vacation spot. You should make sure that you can get to and from the place easily, that it suits your needs now and will suit them well into the future—especially important if you’re considering spending your retirement there—and whether you’ll want to rent it when you’re not using it.

All those decisions make us feel like we need a vacation! Maybe it’s better to just rent a place, or stay at a great hotel. After all, we’re guessing that second home doesn’t come with room service… [New York Times]
