Learn to Let Go

Don’t feel ashamed to be attached to your home. For most, a home is more than four walls. Selling a home can seem like a form of betrayal. It’s not, but the feeling can be hard to shake.

Try to keep things in perspective. Your house is not a person. It is a thing. Does throwing away a pair of shoes depress you? How about replacing your silverware? If so, perhaps you can benefit from learning to make change a little easier all around.

It’s best to get the grieving done before you sell. Visualize yourself closing the door for the last time. Be comforted knowing it’s time to move on. Hopefully, you can think of this as a grand adventure! Remember other times you’ve moved on, and acknowledge that you’ve gotten through that and you will get through this. Know that your memories aren’t going to vanish just because you’ve moved out.

Help yourself by looking forward to the future, not back at the past. There are bright days ahead!
