Web Tell-All

It’s no secret that before an interview, employers check out their potential employees on the internet. Apparently, web snooping allows employers to get a feel for the candidate coming for an interview.

The New York Post reports that employers are going a step further than web snooping. Outside of the list of references you may have provided the employer, he or she is taking steps to talk to your former work colleagues. All they have to do is log into a networking site, type in the dates and company names from your resume, and up comes a complete list of people who worked at each company at the same time as you. This makes it ridiculously easy to get the 411 on you (we hope you don’t have any workplace secrets)!

So if you’ve recently lost your job and are going in for an interview for a new job, don’t risk not getting hired by burning bridges with your former co-workers. Make sure that you treat everyone with respect, because you never know if one of them might be a secret informant to your future employer.
