Question:Should I get involved?

My sister and her fiance are going through a rough spot and each of them is asking my advice. I care about both of them and want the best, but I don't want it to get to the point where it looks like I"m choosing sides. Should I just stay out of it completely?

Answer:

I'd say your time should be spent comforting/helping your sister. While you do care (and rightfully so!) about her fiance, she's really looking to you for guidance. Remember that if for some reason their marriage doesn't work out, she'll really need you! Family is precious; even if he feels like part of your family he isn't and she is. Listen, be there...and as savvyjuls1 says, help them seek out other help!

Answer:

I would tell them only if you care for the fiance as well. That you love them both and it's getting to where you feel like your taking sides and you don't want to do that. That they should seek out a pre-marital counselor. There are free ones to go to just ask around. Those counselors have work books as well that they can work on together to prepare for their lives together.
