Why You Need to See "Wall-E"

It's hard to imagine that a kids movie about robots could express so much about what it means to be human and to love, but that's exactly what "Wall-E" has achieved.

Without giving too much of the story away, Wall-E is the last "living" thing on Earth after humans turned the planet into a garbage dump and abandoned it. When Eve arrives to look for signs of life, Wall-E is instantly smitten, and when she returns to her ship he is sure to follow her. We then learn that Eve is just one in a whole society of robots who exist for the sole reason of catering to humans—feeding them, cleaning them and literally moving their bodies since people are now little more than blobs who enjoy playing video games and talking. (SPOILER ALERT: There is a happy ending to all of this, as only Pixar and Disney could deliver.)

Pixar stands way above the rest in creating incredibly lovable characters in things that have little resemblance to humans—toys, bugs, fish, cars. Here they have gone above and beyond. You'll find yourself comparing the robots to people you know in your life while you marvel at how director Andrew Stanton was able to beautifully capture love through computer animation. Be prepared to laugh through almost 80% of it, while you tear up  (and maybe full-on cry, as this reviewer did) at the touching conclusion that would give any romance a run for its money.

The film shows how beings can go above and beyond for the ones that they love, and it suggests that maybe we should be working a bit harder to improve the relationships in our lives, since the comforting touch of a computer or a machine will only get you so far. It's not your physical makeup that makes you "alive" or not, it's the emotional connections that you foster.

As much as it is touted as a kids movie, this is every bit as much a movie that speaks to adults.
