Dating Contracts at Work

What if you had to sign a pre-nup before every relationship, not just a marriage? Would you hesitate? What would your terms be?

Dating coworkers at a growing list of companies are being asked to sign relationship contracts that outline the status of the relationship and terms for their office behavior.

And if you think that sounds unusual, just watch the May 8th episode of "Grey's Anatomy" where everyone was asked to follow the new "date and tell" policy. How's that for art imitating life!

While these employees are signing contracts in order to stave off company lawsuits, it’s a concept that can be translated into the dating world, too. When you’re at a serious-enough juncture in your relationship, its important to establish what your goals and expectations are. This does not mean talking about how many kids you want on the first date, he or she will run away faster than you can say, “check please!” But if you’re at the point where you’ve got an extra set of clothes at his or her apartment, it might help improve your relationship if you talk about what you want.
