Question:How long does it normal take to overcome the sense of loss after your divorce, even if you're the one who wanted it in the first place?

Answer:

I know in my case it took me five years to overcome my sense of loss - it is just like losing a loved one to death. Sometimes finding another person to share your life with helps in the healing process as well.
