News Team, Assemble!

News Team, Assemble!

OK, so watching news anchors Katie Couric, Charles Gibson and Brian Williams join forces to fight cancer probably won’t be nearly as funny as watching Ron Burgundy and his news team assemble to battle rival news gangs, but it probably will do much more to better humanity.

In a rare simultaneous broadcast, ABC, CBS and NBC will air a one-hour fundraiser for cancer research hosted by the respective evening news anchors prime-time on Sept. 5. The Stand Up to Cancer benefit will feature celebrity appearances and musical performances, although no specific names have been released yet. The American Association for Cancer Research will distribute the fundraising money to various organizations.

The benefit is one of many fundraisers put on by the Stand Up to Cancer nonprofit, headed by Katie Couric and other entertainment industry leaders. Couric lost both her husband and sister to cancer.

For anyone who has experienced a health diagnosis of cancer, benefits and fundraisers for cancer take on a whole new meaning and importance. What cancer research events have meant the most to you? [Associated Press]
