"Ever since I subscribed to your site the daily reminders are the only thing I read apart from email and the NY Times headlines and weather. I am hugely critical of most self-help information, but this is not what your site is. I save 1 in 2 of these and have kept a library folder. They are intelligent, concise, relevant and are pitched at exactly the right level." -Martin Chalk, CEO, Balance Water

Actress Christina Applegate Fighting Breast Cancer

Actress Christina Applegate Fighting Breast Cancer

It’s another reminder that cancer truly is indiscriminant—the young, beautiful actress Christina Applegate, best known for her role as Kelly Bundy on “Married…With Children,” received a breast cancer health diagnosis  recently. Fortunately, it was detected early from an MRI her doctor ordered. Applegate, 36, is expected to make a full recovery. She’s also scheduled to appear on a one-hour television fundraiser special “Stand Up to Cancer”  that will feature various celebrities, which is scheduled to air on Sept. 5.

Applegate’s experience highlights just how important early detection can be. While there are no guarantees, early detection is among the best ways to increase the odds of beating the condition. Following her doctor’s orders and treatment plan will also help Applegate in her battle.

How often do you go for a mammogram or do you rely on self-exams? What has your experience been with these tests? [Reuters]

Self exams are so important. I felt something recently that just turned out to be fibrous tissue, but it felt good to catch it and have it seen early.
