Empty Nest Just a Myth?

People keep saying that it’s a difficult transition, but you’re enjoying the freedom of an empty nest. Is there something wrong with you?

Not according to researchers at the University of Missouri, who recently published an article debunking the “myth” of empty nest syndrome. While they regard that this is an important transition for families to go through, they see it as an overwhelmingly positive time for dear old mom and dad.

In their study, researchers found that most parents enjoyed the change as it happened, and felt a stronger bond as their relationship with the child became more peerlike. While it is true that some parents find a bit of sadness in letting go, it can be very satisfying as a parent to watch your child become independent! [US News and World Report]
