It’s important to find the right people with the best credentials to assist you in your kitchen renovation. Here is a brief glossary to help navigate the acronyms:

Architect: A professional who designs, plans and oversees structural construction.

ASID: American Society of Interior Designers, many design professionals are members of this organization that provides support, certification and resources.

CKD: Certified Kitchen Designer, through the National Kitchen and Bath Association, which tests professionals who specialize in the design and planning of residential kitchens and have more than seven years of experience.

CMBKD: Certified Master Kitchen and Bath Designer, also through the NKBA, recognizes extraordinary experience and achievements in the kitchen and bath industry. The CMKBD must possess their CKD certification and have a minimum of 17 years of industry experience.

General Contractor: A professional who oversees a construction project, including the scheduling, supervision and payment of subcontractors.

Subcontractor: Contractors who work for another design firm or construction company, often a specialist.

An extensive glossary can be found on the National Kitchen and Bath Association’s web site.
