My Best Friend's Wedding

When you need advice, do you ask your stylist, or your best friend? The guy at the deli counter, or your gym buddy? Strangers can answer some of life’s easier questions, but when it comes to saying I Do, the friends have it—online friends included.

Lots of young people who are in the midst of planning a wedding are turning to their online networks for a thumbs-up/thumbs-down on everything from hairstyles to cakes. After all, if every detail of life is going to be posted for the world to see before the engagement, why not during nuptial plans?

Well, for one thing, planning a wedding is stressful enough without every other person chiming in with an opinion. You finally settle on a DJ, when a poll comes in with 77% of respondents saying they’d prefer a band called the Swing Kings. Do you go with your plan, or do what the guests say?

Is this really the way to plan your big day? It seems that unless there’s a poll asking them to pay for it, you should go your own way. Would you use the wedding polls found at different wedding sites? [WSJ]
