Let's Face It
British psychologists have uncovered a mind-blowing fact that never would have occurred to us in a million years (no hint of sarcasm here): women are attracted to males who they believe are interested in long-term relationships and men are drawn to ladies who appear to prefer flings.
"What was interesting was the strength of the preference among men for women who were interested in short-term sex and the strength of the preference of the women for men not interested in short-term sex," Lynda Boothroyd of Durham University told The Guardian.
The good news is, we're all pretty good at judging potential mates. Boothroyd and her fellow researchers asked 700 men and women in their early 20's to look at photos of the opposite sex. They were asked to judge the photos for sex appeal and to guess what their attitude towards sex might be. In one study, 73% of the participants guessed correctly more than half the time. The researchers found that men who appeared to have more masculine features were believed to prefer short-term relationships.
That's all good, but what we want to know is what happens when you start throwing variables into the mix? It seems some celebrities have already caught on to this phenomenon and are trying to throw their admirers off track with sexually ambiguous accessories. British comedian Russell Brand and American rocker Pete Wentz have shown a penchant for "man-scara," and Marissa Tomei was recently spotted sporting a fake moustache. Will you opt for a disguise when you go out to search for new romance?
