Have Phone, Will Flirt

American guys (and gals) take flirting for granted, sidling up to a cute stranger at a bar or “meeting cute” at the park. Finding romance  is easy—we’re free to meet anyone at any time and make our desires known.

In other cultures, however, it might not be so easy. In India, where “traditional” measures of dating are practically forbidden, text messaging among young amourous men and women is turning up the heat. Apparently, men in their early 20s single out women they are attracted to and show their affections via text messaging. They may go on to the next step and ask for a date, but are still bound by strict societal and familial standards as to what happens next.

While you can go on and just ask for a date, there’s some fun to flirting by text. The next time you’re thinking of someone that has your eye, send a sweet message. Who knows where it may lead! [New York Times]
