Judy May Murphy on Pursuing Your Dreams

Success coach Judy May Murphy helps people achieve their ultimate dreams quickly while loving the journey. She is highly trained in the areas of investment and personal finance, health, nutrition, fitness, psychology, relationships, neuro-linguistic programming (NLP), cognitive therapy and other forms of change work. The co-author of Your Life Only a Gazillion Times Better, Murphy regularly appears on TV shows around the world. Here, Murphy shares her wisdoms for pursuing your dreams.

What’s the one thing that helps people succeed in achieving their dreams?

Your dream comes true the instant you decide it will. Everything else is simply a matter of believing in the dream—and in yourself—enough to keep going. During the first 30 days, you can feed the dream with faith and action, or starve it with doubt and inaction. Feed it and it lives, starve it and it dies. It’s that simple. Just as there’s no such thing as conditional love, there’s no such thing as conditional faith, especially when it comes to pursuing your dream.

Can you tell in advance whether someone will achieve his or her dreams?

I can always tell whether someone will achieve his or her dream simply by the look in their eye as they tell me about it. Some seem concerned, as if they are trying to convince me, as if they are looking for my permission. When it’s your true dream you don’t need anyone’s permission—you know it’s yours. When people come to see me for coaching, they initially tell me about the secondary dream—the substitute dream—because they believe that the real dream would be too big, too self-indulgent, too impossible to achieve. When they eventually confess their real dream, they look like they’re in love, like I couldn’t pry the dream away from them with an industrial-sized wrench.

Was there a defining moment that caused you to focus on this area?

I’ve always coached people. Even when I was a little girl, I remember sitting down with friends, helping them solve problems and work out ways of achieving tasks. When I realized that coaching was actually a real job, I started to train with the very best in the world including Wayne Dyer, Deepak Chopra, Dr. David Burns, Barbara de Angelis, Tony Robbins and many others. I spent five years traveling around the world to study and get experience in coaching. I intend to remain a student, even though I am now considered an expert, and keep up-to-date with the latest studies and techniques.

What belief do you personally go to during times of change?

I believe we were put here for a reason, and that reason is to bring into being that which we yearn for. If you don’t live your dream, then it will go unlived and the world will be a much poorer place.
