Liar, Liar, Your Profile's on Fire

Liar, Liar, Your Profile's on Fire

When you’re creating an online dating persona, it’s tempting to try to paint the best picture possible. It’s easy to do, too. You hated “Juno,” but included it on your favorite flicks list because all the cool kids were raving about it. You lost 20 pounds but your gym membership expired and you haven’t been lifting weights. So what’s the harm in checking the box next to “athletic?”

Well, don’t do it! Not only will it come off as insincere, but the only mate you’re going to find is one who has fallen for your new fictional persona.

The beauty of online dating is that out of the millions of other singles searching the web, you’re likely to find someone who’s looking for an out of shape gym rat who thinks Ellen Page is a one-trick pony. How would you feel if you agreed to meet someone whose profile said he or she “had a couple of tattoos,” and when you showed up there was a “I love Mom” tatoo written across his or her forehead?
