I was just wondering this too, how much baking soda would you use for a large load? Do you add it in the beginning of the wash?

Baking soda is almost the cure-all for everything. It works great on floors-tough stains, stainless steel, vinyl, the list goes on.But it's mate is viniger. It works great in the wash too! Underarm stains or just to prevent them. Use a spray bottle and viole!

Answer:

Absolutely, there are several alternatives from different companies. I can also turn you on to a green company that has been around for over 20 years and they have all eco-friendly personal and home care products that cost less and are shipped directly to your door. (cost less even with shipping, and no gas to drive to the store)

Answer:

Free and Clear, Laundress, Ecover and Seventh Generation all make organic softeners for laundry. You can also add a half cup of vinegar to the rinse water when you wash. I've heard baking soda also works well.
