Word of the Year: Hypermiling
Hypermiling has officially been chosen as the Word of the Year by the good people at the New Oxford American Dictionary.
We thought it was Change, but whatever.
Anyway, hypermiling, for those who may not know, is "an attempt to maximize gas mileage by making fuel-conserving adjustments to one’s car and one’s driving techniques. Rather than aiming for good mileage or even great mileage, hypermilers seek to push their gas tanks to the limit and achieve hypermileage, exceeding EPA ratings for miles per gallon."
Hypermilers will do almost anything to cut down gas usage, from always making sure tires are properly inflated to driving without shoes to increase foot sensitivity to pedals. Talk about extreme green!
Have you gone to extremes with creating a green home and lifestyle? We'd love to hear what you think of hypermiling...and what you're doing to conserve!
