A Model Green Home

There’s nothing like leading by example, but Eric Doub is living by example. He’s the owner of Ecofutures Building in Boulder, CO, and is at the forefront of building truly green homes in his county.

Doub constructed his own green home for his family from scratch, using available technology and reusing older materials. He lined solar panels on the roof of his home, made the house face south to take advantage of the sun and even reused a hot-water tank from a farm. Sure, it cost more than $1 million to create, but his masterpiece, known as the Solar Harvest, is now attracting thousands of visitors and the attention of the local community.

The overarching message of Doub’s creation is that anyone can make a green home, and you don’t have to do crazy things or live without modern conveniences to do it. Even if you can’t construct and entirely new home, there are simple things you can do to incorporate green living  and make a difference. [The New York Times]
