The Sleepy Look

“Wow, you look TIRED!” We’ve all heard that declaration countless times, but what if you are actually feeling great at the time of hearing it? Oh right, you have dark circles under your eyes no matter how much sleep you get. In 2006, a survey done by Clinique found that about 53% of respondents called under-eye circles and/or puffiness their top beauty concern.

While the solution to chronic dark circles used to be found in makeup, specifically concealer, cosmetics companies are releasing products that can hopefully diminish the circles, instead of just covering them up.

What causes them anyhow? Sometimes, you can indeed just be tired, but too much pigmentation, genetics and binge-drinking also cause dark under-eye circles. If new creams and gels don’t do the trick, there is the more drastic option of surgery, which involves “filler” injections that last about 6 months. Are there any home remedies for dark circles that you know of? [The New York Times]
