If you’re fatigued, depressed, anxious, irritable, or crave alcohol or caffeine, the solution might be simpler than you think: Drink more water.
According to Dr. Fereydoon Batmanghelidj, or “Dr. Batman,” author of Obesity, Cancer & Depression: Their Common Cause & Natural Cure, “Dehydration negatively affects the body’s cells, which produce symptoms doctors call ‘disease conditions’”—those listed above, as well as heartburn, rheumatoid arthritis, migraines, fibromyalgia and colitis, among many others.
In general, you should drink enough water to keep your urine light in color, not yellow or orange, recommends Dr. Batman, “…combined with more minerals—specifically potassium, magnesium and sodium—to balance and regulate the body’s performance.” These minerals are important. They don't contain just any old salt. Unrefined salt, he says, preferably from the mountains, contains at least 80 other elements that are essential to the body.
