Are You Really Seeing HD?

With HDTV, you can see clearly every beauty mark on the faces of celebrities prancing down the red carpet at the latest award show event—but wait, are you even watching TV on your HDTV?

Closely approaching half of all TV owners, 41% of those with a tube own an HDTV, says a new survey released by ABI Research, a technology research company. But surprisingly, only 56% of those individuals had a programming agreement with an HD provider. It makes you wonder what these people are really doing with their TV…

Of course, there is the obvious movie-watching. But HD-DVDs are no longer in production and Blu-Ray is still somewhat pricy—even for older flicks: the movie “Terminator” in regular DVD format has a list price of $14.98, when the Blu-Ray version weighs in at $29.98. New movies like “Enchanted” face a price of $34.99 or higher, so you best start your bargain hunting now, if a home theatre experience is what you’re looking for.

Or maybe the other 44% play video games on their big screen HDTV. What do you use your HDTV for? [BetaNews]
