Finding Diamonds in the Bay
Joe Carter has a few years before he ever has to think about proposing, but the 12-year-old from San Francisco is already learning that popping the question can be an unpredictable event.
Carter was out boating with his father when he spotted a black velvet box floating near their small vessel. Sure enough, there was a ring inside with a price tag identifying it as a $499 one-quarter-carat diamond wedding ring. The Carters have put up signs around town and even tried calling the local Macy’s but still haven’t had any luck finding the ring’s owner.
As long as the ring is unclaimed, its history remains a mystery. The Carters wonder if perhaps the fiancée-to-be tossed the ring after being disappointed in its small size.
If you’re not sure what type of ring your girl will be interested in, enlist the help of one her friends or relatives. Even if they don’t know exactly what kind of cut she wants, they might be able to talk you into spending more than $499.
