Who Cares If It Turns Out Right?

Everyday_change_50x50
Unless you're building a skyscraper or fixing a brain, there's room for error in your work. Sometimes, not forcing greatness/perfection leads to bigger and better ideas. So let go of whether a project is "right," and just let it be what it'll be.

Look for companies, not jobs

letitgo

I read a good book called "The Right Job" that encourages people not just to send resumes in response to job postings, but to look for companies you like that you would like to work for. Finding the right job is about knowing who you are and what makes you feel good about work. When you work for a company you care about -- one that is aligned with your values it's much easier to care about what you do and that can make all the difference in your health, well being on the job and outlook in general.

This has worked for me. I researched a group of companies once and found their "work hard play hard" culture was really important to them. I sent in a resume with a cover letter that included a bullet of qualification that read "Absolutely no sense of humor". Taking the risk on that bullet and taking the initiative to send in a resume landed me an interview for a job that hadn't been posted yet.
