Loren Slocum on Living More Spiritually

What change would you like to bring about in the world?
The change I would like to bring about in the world is encouraging people to support each other and form real community where they know that they matter, not for what they have but truly for who they are as individuals and the gifts we have to share. We are all unique with different backgrounds, goals and needs but what binds us is that we are here to help each other grow. We are so much stronger together than we are divided. I founded LoBella to help and encourage women not only to support one another but also to remind them that they are not alone. The majority of bullying of women is perpetrated by fellow women, and that is something that needs to stop. We need to stand up and support each other.
What is your life’s work?
My life’s work is helping each woman wake up, stay awake and get in touch with her true self—the person she is at her core and the person she is meant to be when she puts her mind, body and spirit to the task. It’s so easy to get caught up in all of the little details in life and forget what we’re passionate about and what brings us true joy and fulfillment. I know I was put here to help people reconnect with the amazing qualities they have within them and to encourage them ALWAYS to stay true to their core essences by guiding them through small important tuneups.
What is your motivation to help people change their lives?
The fabulous people I have been touched by throughout my life, motivate me to help people change their lives for the better. To see the resilience and passion in people we make judgments about, inspire me to remember, I have no problems! I have seen so many women pick themselves up, dust themselves off and rebuild their lives, and I learned from that it's not always a life makeover that is needed, small changes are all it takes, or as I like to call them, “Life Tuneups.” Also my kids are constantly reminding me why I do this. Every day I see them rise to the occasion in new ways. Recently my son, Quinn wanted this little boy to come over until this little boy did something not nice that caused my son to say, “Mom, I am not going to not stay true to myself. I need to be with kids that are nice because that's what the world needs. I can't help him until he helps himself!” From the mouth of a 9-year-old!
What changes do you see women wanting to make these days?
I think all women are hungry to find "their purpose" but we are told that we can't have it all and that something has to give. I say that everyone's version of Having It All is going to look different, so let's honor that and show women how they can find their purposes, feel fulfilled and help them teach these desires to the younger girls!
What gets in the way?
Too often, women feel they are being selfish if they think about themselves and what they want. But I also say that you need a strong emotional and physical foundation within YOU before you start taking care of everyone else. Think of yourself as a glass of water. When you give something to yourself that you enjoy, like a run in the park or an hour of uninterrupted reading, you are filling up your glass and everyone can have a sip. But when you don't take the time to take care of yourself, you’re pouring that glass out, leaving nothing for yourself or for anyone else. You need to take care of yourself in order to take care of others. P.S.: you can't give what you don't have!
Were you always happy, successful and balanced? How did you become so?
Heck no! I had to make a decision to stop comparing myself to others, and to figure out what I truly wanted. I also made a commitment to stay tuned to who I was, and not compromise what I believed in. Has it been easy? No. Is it worth it? YES!!!
What is your main message for women these days?
“To be someone you are not is to waste the person you are.”

You are right about trying to find your purpose. I've had a heck of a time doing that after my kids left home. I was a really awesome Mom. and now I am not sure what to do. I've always been creative so I am taking classes in water colors, stain glass and quilting and enjoying the projects very much.
