Reviewing Recycling

Icon_tip_3

According to Earth911.org, it will take about 700 years for a plastic bottle to begin to decompose. That’s right, 700 years. You might be able to repeat the “reduce, reuse, recycle” mantra in your sleep, but do you follow through in your actions? If you’re not yet recycling, this is a great initial step to take when transitioning to a more green home.

Most municipalities now pick up recyclables along with the garbage, or you can take your goods—paper, plastic, glass, aluminum and cardboard—to a nearby recycling center. The key is to integrate the habit into your space. Place bins under your sink or in your garage—one for each category of material so it’s already separated for pickup or drop off—and start tossing in your newspaper, soda cans and packaging materials.

If you are uncertain as to whether something can be recycled, visit the National Recycling Coalition for information on how to find out what can be recycled in your area.
