Question:Is there an alternative to bleach?

I'm thinking specifically for the bleaching of white clothes...is there a less toxic, more green way of bleaching?

Answer:

In looking around on Etsy, I did find something called "natural stain stick." Not like bleach obviously, but a neat alternative to Shout. Too bad it's currently sold out: Link

Answer:

I've tried OxyClean but I found it wasn't as effective as bleach (and was certainly not as effective as in their info-mericals). But, like Cwolf112 said – not sure how eco friendly it is as a product or company.

Answer:

On my walk home last night I saw someone hanging their clothes on a line ... it reminded me of when people used to dry their clothes outdoors, not only because they didn't have clothes dryers but because the sun would make the whites that much whiter.

As far as product, I've used that bluette stuff ... hard to believe blue liquid can make your whites whiter, but it does.

What about OxiClean? It uses the stain fighting power of Oxygen! That's not an endorsement I've just heard the commercial too many times. It claims it's chlorine free, dye free, fragrance free...though I'm not too sure how "green" it is?

Answer:

According to Greencleanbook.com, you could use oxygen-based bleach (two companies that make it are Bi-O-Kleen and Earth Friendly Products) or add a 1/4 cup of washing soda or borax to a load of wash to make them whiter. I admire you for going green and just might do it myself!
