Something Smells Fishy

Something Smells Fishy

When we think about the extremes people go to for a style change, a few things may come to mind: going under the knife, dropping hundreds on a new wardrobe, subscribing to a fad diet or even purchasing those infomercial skin care products. Well, suddenly all of these seem normal! Changing your look just got a lot more interesting…

It’s called a fish pedicure and it hails from northern Virginia. Run-of-the-mill pedicures usually involve razors in order to remove dead skin, but this process can be unsanitary, and well, not so fun. The garra rufa, aptly referred to as “doctor fish,” have been used abroad for the same purpose, feeding on dead skin cells when there is nothing else around. Live skin remains intact because the fish don’t have teeth (that’s a plus!).

Customers are raving about the pedicure, calling the sensation “ticklish” or “tingling.” While it is only available at the one salon in Virginia, the owners are looking into full-body treatments and franchise possibilities. Now the question is, would YOU do this? [MSNBC]
