Looking Back to Look Forward

Hi and welcome back from the holiday season!

I had a very different type of holiday this time around. For Christmas, I went out to Palm Springs and spent 8 days fasting. It was the ultimate detox—no food, just liquids for over a week (juices, teas, green powdery stuff, gallons of alkaline water). I was at a place called WeCare, nestled in the desert with about 20 other brave individuals.

There are classes of all types everyday: emotional detox, principles of food combining, release and forgiveness classes and of course daily yoga.
It's a funny thing when you detox, all your emotions come up for discussion—any emotion you have ignored, pushed away or forgotten comes up and stares at you in the face and says HELLO. You can't really do much to busy yourself so the thoughts that tell you things you know are the real truth are clearly present.

You get a lot of clarity when you fast as well on what's important, whether you are happy, what dreams have you pushed aside. You become grateful and see things from a different point of view. And of course, you do lose some weight, your body sheds toxins, your skin clears up....if you ever want to fast, please email me and I will be happy to give you some pointers.

I saw two documentaries there I must absolutely recommend. Both are disturbing I warn you, but a must see!
The Future of Food. I have always known about the importance of eating organic, just never had that final "kick in the butt/do it" moment- this film will expose you to some things we all need to know about that fruit, salad and piece of wholegrain bread or tofu we think is so good for us. I also feel much smarter about Genetically Modified Foods (where they are, how you can know, the effect they have on adults and especially kids). Watch this one with friends or family.
Meet your Meat. This is a very compelling case for looking differently at meat, dairy products and anything that comes from animals, including yes, cheese and ice cream! It's only 12 minutes long because some scenes are very tough and that's about all someone needs to see/know to be fully informed and make some good decisions.

If you are committed to living healthier this year and care about friends and family, please watch these videos and pass them on. Their message will stay with you for a very long time.

I just did a segment on the Today Show this morning on New Years Resolutions. You can see what Dr Robi Ludwig and I shared with our good friend and friend of First30Days, Al Roker. And if you havent already downloaded it, get our free ultimate guide to resolutions. It's not the stuff you are used to reading....believe me, the first piece of advice is not to make any New Year's Resolutions.....especially not in January. You want to set yourself up for success and be ready to begin.
