Establishing good communication with your child’s caregiver will help make your transition back to work that much easier.  Though you may feel like checking in every five minutes via telephone, it may be more realistic to schedule one or two check-in times, instead.

Rather than trying to listen to the run down of the day’s events when you get home, purchase a notebook that can be used as a log for recording your child’s daily activities, meals, sleep times and milestones. You can likewise communicate any notes to your caregiver, including new foods to try and suggested outings. As the weeks progress, you may feel more comfortable relaxing some of the aspects of the system. Perhaps, you will cut down to checking in only once a day instead of twice. The log can then be used to let you know when you are low on diapers and other baby supplies, instead of providing a play-by-play account of your baby’s every move.
