Company closed down the store I managed - how do I find a new job? Willing to relocate
My qualifications are Product Manager. I have been a store manager for a year now and due to the building industry being so slow the company I work for closed my store. I am looking for a new job that I can go back to doing what I am good at product manager and I am willing to relocate. Where I live there is no work, especially corporate type work. I support my family, my husband is retired due to MS.
I do not know where to start.
There are several places to post your resume online and possibly through your state unemployment agency. There used to be a site called America's Talent Bank and if you search for it you may link with your state's site if it has one. There is also Monster.com and CareerBuilders.com both of which are favorites of business people looking for help. These days they don't have to look for you as there are many in active search mode submitting resumes.
You can also go to the websites for many stores and businesses and see if there is a link to their "career or job" boards.
Good luck. There are jobs but you have to go after them and be prepared to start at or near the bottom.
One good place to start is with your personal network of friends, family members, recent and former co-workers.
While the first ring of people may not be able to place you in a new job, the connections of your friends are valuable and chances are you know someone who knows someone who knows of a company that is hiring.
That's the idea behind web sites like linkedin that let you mine your connections from current and previous jobs.
You'll also find some good advice here from the many experts we've interviewed in the past year. Choose the Expert Network link and look in on the advice in this topic as well as the Losing Your Job topic and the Finding Your Dream Job topic.
Start talking about your qualifications as well as your need and see where it leads.
Good luck!
