HDTV Gets Some Fresh Air

Fast forward to the summer: you’re sitting on your back porch, sipping lemonade with vanishing ice cubes, as the fireflies whiz by. Instead of watching flying bugs, you could be cheering on your favorite baseball team, live in HD. Yes, that’s right, an HDTV that can be outside.

But don’t unplug the one in your TV room and schlep it out back. A company named Pantel has created two LCD HDTV models—sized at 32- and 42- inches, with larger sizes in development stages—designed specifically for being outdoors. They are weatherproof and made to prevent glare, something you might even experience while inside with the sun beating through the window’s shades.

You may run into one of Pantel’s designs while waiting to ride a roller coaster this summer—these products will also be used at amusement parks, concerts and other outdoor events. Pantel’s technology has been tested to withstand temperatures ranging from -40 degrees Fahrenheit to 140 degrees Fahrenheit and weather conditions including rain, snow and wind. Talk about extremes!
