They're Alive!

They’re here! They’re alive! These haunting phrases from horror flicks can now be applied to the status of the clone computers that have been designed to copycat Mac and Vista operating systems.

The first batch of “Open Computers” clones has shipped! One customer named Patrick reveals his clone that resembles the Mac Pro with video footage. Computer start-up, as viewed with a Dell flatscreen monitor, takes about 45 seconds from the push of the button till it was loaded and ready to use. However, Patrick says that the Apple software updater does not recognize this Mac operating system…therefore, users could be prone to hacking without appropriate patches that seal up deadly holes.

Are these clones worth the bother? Sure, the price can’t be beat. But if it means dealing with a lack of security, you might be better off with spending a bit more. Anyone hear about the first Vista clone? [Gizmodo.com]
