"Ever since I subscribed to your site the daily reminders are the only thing I read apart from email and the NY Times headlines and weather. I am hugely critical of most self-help information, but this is not what your site is. I save 1 in 2 of these and have kept a library folder. They are intelligent, concise, relevant and are pitched at exactly the right level." -Martin Chalk, CEO, Balance Water

Hey Mr. DJ

Hey Mr. DJ

When 16-year-old Tiffany Monk saw that the flood waters from Tropical Storm Fay were rapidly rising outside of her home, she started thinking about how her neighbors–many of whom were confined to wheelchairs and aided by oxygen tanks–would be trapped inside their homes. It must have appeared to be just like a Hollywood movie, except there was no hero in sight. So, Tiffany decided to assist her neighbors in classic teenage fashion. She whipped out her digital camera, took some pics of the most frightening scenarios and emailed them to her favorite radio station.

"I was just trying to help out the best I could," she said to the media. "I've learned that if you actually take action then someone might listen to you."

Within 20 minutes camera crews from local news stations and emergency service vehicles arrived at the scene. Her neighbors were escorted to a local shelter and many of them were able to salvage personal items from within their homes.

We love the example that Tiffany has set. She has shown that even though we may not have emergency rescue skills, we're all capable of helping out in a natural disaster. Have you ever used an unusual set of skills to help out in an emergency situation?
