Question:How do you include the crazy ex without going crazy yourself?

I'm not a new stepparent, but my stepparenting is expanding. After years of alienation my oldest step daughter is now having a healthy relationship with her Dad. Her mother fit so well into Sally Bjoronsen's crazy ex wife category that we actually were able to get a great deal of help from a book titled "Divorce Poison" if that gives you a clue. Well, the oldest step daughter got married. We're very happy for her and want to throw her a party at our house. She, naturally, wants to invite her mother. I would love to be able to say, of course! but have grave reservations because of past injuries and continuing difficulties. We're trying to figure out how to include the crazy ex while respecting our own concerns and not putting the kid (now 27) in the middle. Any advice?
