Journal to Success

Icon_tip_4

As you start a new job, it’s common to have thoughts, comments and concerns running through your head. Dedicate a new notebook as your “New Job Journal.” In it, you should write all your feelings and emotions as you experience them, along with notes on the people you met and key things to remember about them. Trust me, it will come in handy these first few weeks.

Start your journal by thinking about what success means to you. Think about what it will take for you to be successful at this job, but, more importantly, what will it take for you to know personally and emotionally that you are successful. Ask yourself:

  • What does success look like? Where are you? How do people react to you?
  • What will you see? Is there a finished product you are creating?
  • What feedback will you receive?
  • How will you feel?

Once you’ve established your success plan, keep it in mind throughout your career. And, make sure you are working toward your goals each day.
