Question:Are remodeling tours a good start?

I keep hearing about people going on home remodeling tours for ideas on what to do with their own homes. I've been thinking about finding one, but I'm wondering if they'd be a waste of time when I could just go to Home Depot or something.

Additionally it's a great way to find out what doesn't work. Face it, how many times have you seen another person's home and wondered "why would anyone want to live with THAT?"

Absolutely. It's a great way to spot great ideas (as well as bad ones).

I'd be afraid I'd fall in love with something I can't do because of my house being too different from the other homes...
