Question:What Can We Do? Help

Well it all started back in Dec. 2003. We had just found out we were going to have our first child! I was already 6 weeks along and we were making plans for the baby! My husband went in for a routine physical in Jan. 2004 and after a worried look on his Doctors face and what seemed like a 100 tests, found out that he had testicular cancer. We of course freaked out! then he was told that he had to start chemo in 3 days! Totally devistated we decided that it was the only option, and he started the 4 rounds of chemo in which he stayed in the hospital for a week at a time. (Mind you all the while I am getting bigger and am sleeping in a widow seat at the hospital because I would not leave). During this time we lost our home and ended up moving in with family.
Finally June rolls around and he gets done with the chemo! :) yay! and I am now 8 months pregnant.:) After a round of tests they say " we are sure that the cancer is gone" Relieved to hear that, we start his recovery. Which meant no work for him for almost a year. Our Daughter was born August 5th and we were so happy , it helped with the recovery because our focus was on her. Although we were living with family and were on state aid for our food, the statecould no give us any money because he couldn't work .
Almost all the medical bills were paid by the state, but costs that weren't were ours to deal with. We didn't care, we were just happy that he was alive! And we had a Healthy Daughter! :) A year rolls around and it is now September of 2005, embarrased but with no othe choice we had to file Bankruptcy because the bills were to much. We got our letter of dissmisal in Jan 2006. Glad that that chapter was finished, we decided to start over fresh. My husband got a job working for a construction company, and although he was only making $10 hr. we felt blessed! things finally looked like they were going our way!
Until, I got a headache in July 2006 that literally lasted 5 days! I ended up in the emergency room at the hospital and Had a CT scan. About 3 hours later a doctor came in and showed us the films and told me that I had a appointment with a neurosurgeon the next morning because they could see a spot on the films. I felt sick and angry, all that we went through, and all that we had accomplished had come down to this!
I went to the surgeon and was told that I had a thing called an AVM Malformation and that I was goint to need brain surgery! The surgeon must have thought I had lost my mind because I almost started laughing when he said surgery. I was just thinking to myself that everyone always says "when it rains it pours" We where having a hurricaine! I went home and started preparing myself for the surgery, calling everyone I knew including my life insurance company to make sure that it was paid and not lapsed or anything. I tried to sit down with my Daughter and tell her that she was going to have her Grandma come and stay at our house for a while, and that Mommy had to got to the doctors so that they could make Mommy better. So anyway, I went in for surgery in Nov. 2006 and stayed there for 7 days after my surgery. When I went home, I had 8 weeks of not doing anything and was kinda in a fog. I have lost the ability to remember details and forget stuff alot, in fact if I had not had My Family to help me write everything down and remind me to do things I probably wouldn't be able to somewhat function today!
We were cut off of State assistance because they say my husband now makes too much money. Although they don't take into account what goes out as far as bills. So there goes our insurance from the state. My husband has insurance through his employer, but they say that everything we go to the doctor for, is a "pre-existing condition" so we get billed for every CT scan and blood test that my husband has (and will have for the next few years) . My stuff isn't covered either.
We bought a Manufactured home in June of 2007 but with all the medical bills we are now $45,00 more in debt from the home, and have at least $20,000 in medical and overdue bills again. The creditors are calling night and day! We can't file bankruptcy again. What can we do? Can we file for a Gov. Grant? Does anyone have any ideas?

This is not a sob story and we are not looking for pity, but we are looking for ideas and maybe someplaces that could help. Please let us know!

Answer:

Girl, you need to write a letter to Oprah. :)

Short of a gift from the heavens, it sounds like you and your husband have done a great deal to keep yourselves in the best place possible. Congrats on your beautiful child and the fact that you have a supportive family nearby that can help! You're so blessed to have that.

I don't have any answers as to how to clear your debts, but I will offer you my prayers of support. I did find this site with some possibly helpful links:

Best wishes for you and your family!
