Donald Trump, Landlord to the Stars
So it seems that Donald Trump will be Ed McMahon’s new landlord. He’s agreed to save the 85-year-old actor from foreclosure and is purchasing McMahon’s house for an undisclosed sum of money and will let him live there. The house was originally on the market for $7 million, but was recently dropped to $4.6 million given the trouble in the market.
Trump says that he doesn’t know McMahon personally, but it felt like the right thing to do—apparently, he often watched the Tonight Show while in business school at Wharton, and really seems to be a McMahon fan. McMahon has been out of work for 18 months due to a neck injury, so his debts have been piling up. But, thanks to the philanthropic efforts of Trump, McMahon can breathe a little easier…and keep his house.
Donald Trump usually knows a good real estate deal when he sees one, so perhaps he thinks there's a good deal in the home to boot. What do you think of him coming to McMahon's aid—is it purely altruistic? [USA Today]
I heard on the news that this was not Eds primary homeand with all the commercials he does etc, I find it hard to believe he cannot afford his home. Maybe, he should sell it and get what he can for it, just like we would have to do. As for Donald Trump, yes it was a nice gesture but why couldn't he use that money to help the families who were losing their homes due to greedy mortgage lenders. It just reenforces to me that some millionaires and billionaires are oblivious to what is happening in the real world or they just do not care. Thank you.
