Want to Quit? Talk to Your Doc

Want to Quit? Talk to Your Doc

Quitting smoking can often feel like trying to avoid the latest Britney Spears news—it’s futile. If only someone with medical knowledge could talk to you about the dangers of smoking and the benefits of quitting.

Turns out, you have someone you can call on right now. Talking to your doctor could actually increase your chances of quitting. In a review of studies, researchers found that when doctors spoke to their patients about different ways to quit smoking, they actually listened! Or at least, a small percentage of those people listened. Now, if you could just get your doctor to see you for more than five minutes at a time…

Though this information is promising, it’s hard to imagine it making any real significance. After all, doctors have likely told their patients to lose weight at some point, but the obesity rate is climbing ever higher.

Do you think that talking to a medical doctor can get more people to quit smoking? [Sciencedaily.com]
