The Wedding Money Crunch

If you’ve found yourself cutting corners on expenses as you plan your wedding, you’re not alone. A popular wedding industry tracker has found that, for the first time in 15 years, couples in the U.S. are projected to spend less than the year before down $28,704 from $28,732. Couples are tightening the reins by having lunchtime ceremonies in order to offset costly dinners, or taking honeymoons closer to home or in cheaper locations.

Fortunately, it only takes a little bit of extra planning to save major bucks on wedding expenses. Setting up a budget and a list of priorities will also make things a lot easier.

If you’ve got your hearts set on a honeymoon in Paris, you might be more willing to cut back on the amount of guests at your reception. If you don’t really care about your centerpieces, you can save the money for that seven layer chocolate cake you’ve been eyeing. Not only will you save money, but you’ll also learn some important finance lessons before you enter your marriage.
