Answer:

I hope you are happier in Charlotte as I see it has been a couple of months since you asked..., I have to say I have a 21 year old son in college at UNC-Charlotte. He was very home sick in the beginning years - now he has bonded with people and places - I have to make appointments to get to see him anymore. It is a great city to visit and I am sure you will blend soon if not already. It truly has a great deal to offer for all ages. Invite some old friends from FL up. Share the new place and see how nice it is thru their eyes?

I think Kristen offers a lot of good advice. I'd hang in for at least a year before you decide to move again. Remember to be open to all invitations so you can meet new friends, and go exploring a lot. If at the end of the year you haven't found places, friends or things you love, then it might be time to go somewhere else. But I bet you'll be surprised how much has changed for the better by the end of that one year.

Answer:

How recently did you move? Perhaps you just need to give it some time.

It sounds like you might be a little resentful since you didn't "choose" to move (meaning, you moved for work, not because you had a burning desire to go.)

Perhaps you can try to find something you like about Charlotte. Maybe it's a local coffee shop you visit regularly enough that they recognize you. Or you pour yourself into work so you get really good at your job.

When I first moved to NYC, I wasn't sure I was going to make it—I didn't know anyone here and the cold weather didn't help! In 12-step programs they say "Fake it till you make it," so that's what I did. I told myself everyday that I was extremely happy until I believed it, and I created the life that made me actually happy.

I'm not saying you have to be delusional, or that you will suddenly love Charlotte. But I do believe you have a choice to make the best of where you are today, and find something you can like about it. And, if it turns out you can't, yes—you can move again. But I'd encourage you to stick it out awhile first.
