A local Chattanooga, TN news site asks, “Are you in the best city for your job?” Elizabeth A. Campbell asked herself this question when she was offered a good job in Houston. She was raising her two kids in suburban New Jersey at the time and had spent most of her life in the Northeast. Could she really move to unknown territory for a job?
 
Well, she did! But before relocating, she made a pros and cons list to help her decide. A year later, she is happy with her decision, which has resulted in a bigger and cheaper home. Not every move to a new city will mean savings. A job that promises a higher income may seem tempting, but if the city’s living expenses are high, it will cancel out in the end.
 
If you are considering a move for a job and/or financial reasons, take a look at a few factors: the real estate market, the cost of necessities, commute time and cost, and taxes. In addition to money matters, take into consideration the services you may need, like good schools, public transportation and community amenities.
