And what part of California are you moving to? Los Angeles? San Francisco? A small town? Northern California and Southern California are very different from each other.

When I lived in a smaller city, I joined several clubs, such as University Women, Toastmasters, and the singles group at my church. I also joined a bowling league. Don't laugh! Bowling is having a comeback because of Wii and the fancy things bowling lanes are doing now to attract customers (like laser lights and music). Also, I did some volunteer work. Besides giving you something to do outside of your home, activities like these help you build networks of new friends (who might introduce you to a bachelor friend of theirs).
