What's the best iPod for a beginner?

I'm thinking about taking the plunge, but I don't need a million songs and I'd rather not pay for small fortune. Which model do you suggest?

Hi I'm in the iPod right now. I agree that beginneer is not the way to go, go to the beterr one coming out on top of the horizon.
